NEW DELHI: The high-handed attitude displayed by JMC has met with a lot of resentment from parents and prospective students.
Parents allege that college authorities seem to be following their own set of rules when it comes to granting admission.
On Friday, M M Joshi went to JMC, along with his daughter, to seek admission in the B Com (H) course. His dau-ghter, a pass out from Sanskriti School scored 89.25% in her CBSE Boards.
The minimum percentage required for B Com (H) according to JMC''s second cut-off list is 88.75%. Joshi alleges that despite having reached the college at 9.30 am, the stipulated time for admissions to begin, they were told at about 9.40 am that all seats have been taken and no more admissions would be granted.
"When I insisted that my daughter''s case be considered, as per university rules, they asked for her documents," said Joshi. This is where trouble began for him and his daughter Neha (name changed).
Neha had taken admission in Miranda House in Economics (H) after the first cut-off list. "We requested them for a provisional admission slip as we had attested photocopies of the required documents and the admission slip of MH. We also said that we would produce the original documents by 4 pm, claimed Joshi.
Yet his daughter was refused admission point blank. He isn''t the only one concerned. Shradha (name changed), took admission in Daulat Ram College after making it into the first cut-off. She too had to go back disappointed from JMC.
Dean of Students'' Welfare Hema Raghavan, said that if a college declares a certain cut-off list, they are supposed to admit students who fall in that percentage bracket.
She said: "Declaring a practical cut-off list is the college''s responsibility." Meanwhile, JMC authorities clarified that admissions were done on the basis of ''availability of seats'' even in the first list.
